Add product variations and stock

Create sizes, colours and other buyer options while keeping pricing, SKUs and stock accurate for every combination.

Seller AcademyUpdated 13 July 2026

Use variations when one listing offers buyer-selectable options such as size, colour, capacity or model. Do not create variations for unrelated products.

When to use variations

  • The same clothing design is available in several sizes.
  • The same product is available in several colours.
  • The same model is available with different storage capacities.
  • The same item is available in different pack sizes.
  • Each option remains part of the same core product.

When not to use variations

  • The products have different functions.
  • The products belong in different categories.
  • The products need substantially different descriptions.
  • The products have unrelated brands or models.
  • Combining them would confuse the buyer.

Create clear option names

  • Use familiar names such as Size, Colour, Storage or Pack Quantity.
  • Use consistent values such as Small, Medium and Large.
  • Avoid duplicate values with slightly different spelling.
  • Use buyer-friendly labels rather than internal codes.

Manage combinations and SKUs

  • Create only combinations that are genuinely available.
  • Give each stock combination a unique SKU where required.
  • Set the correct stock quantity for each combination.
  • Add option-specific prices only when they differ.
  • Disable unavailable combinations rather than accepting orders for them.

Keep existing variations accurate

  • Review variations when editing an existing listing.
  • Update stock after each sale.
  • Remove or disable obsolete choices carefully.
  • Do not hide existing buyer choices merely because the current plan changes.

Quick checklist

  • Variations belong to the same product
  • Option names are clear
  • Option values are consistent
  • Combinations are valid
  • Each SKU is unique
  • Stock is correct for each combination
  • Price differences are accurate
Good practice

For a simple product with no buyer-selectable options, keep one product quantity instead of creating unnecessary variants.
