Write product titles and descriptions
Write clear searchable product titles and useful descriptions that help buyers understand exactly what is being sold.
Your title helps buyers find the product. Your description helps them decide whether it is suitable. Both must be specific, accurate and easy to understand.
Build a strong product title
Use the most important identifying information first. A useful title often follows this structure:
Brand + product type + model + important size, capacity or feature.
Include relevant title details
- Product type or recognised product name.
- Brand, when genuine and relevant.
- Model or model number.
- Size, capacity, storage, power or pack quantity.
- Important colour or material when it affects the buyer’s choice.
- Condition only when it is useful to distinguish the item.
Good title examples
- Microsoft Surface Book 2 13.5-inch i5 16GB 256GB
- Pampers Baby-Dry Size 4+ Nappies 76 Pack
- 3-Litre Electric Fufu and Yam Pounder 1500W
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 256GB Phantom Black
- Women’s Ankara Maxi Dress Blue and Orange Size 14
Avoid in titles
- Writing the entire title in capital letters.
- Repeating the same keyword several times.
- Adding unrelated brands or models.
- Adding phone numbers or external website addresses.
- Using vague titles such as Good Item, New Product or Best Quality.
- Using unsupported claims such as cheapest, original or number one.
Write an accurate description
- Explain what the product is and what it is used for.
- Add the brand, model and key specifications.
- Add size, measurements, capacity, material or compatibility.
- Describe the condition accurately.
- State what is included in the package.
- Mention important exclusions or missing accessories.
- Add warranty information only when it genuinely applies.
- Add useful delivery or pickup information.
For used products
- State how long the item has been used when known.
- Describe scratches, dents, cracks or other defects.
- State whether important functions work.
- Mention missing chargers, boxes, manuals or accessories.
- Do not describe a used or refurbished item as brand new.
Make descriptions easy to read
- Use short paragraphs.
- Use bullet points for features and specifications.
- Put the most important information first.
- Remove supplier claims that do not apply to your stock.
- Check spelling, measurements and model numbers.
The description must not hide faults, promise features the product does not have or contradict the photos.
