Sell with Classified Ads
When to post a Classified Ad, when to sell through an Upfrica Shop, and how the two selling options can work together.
A Classified Ad is a direct listing. You publish the details of one item, interested buyers contact you directly, and you deal with them yourself. A Classified Ad does not require an Upfrica Shop. Many sellers use both options: an Upfrica Shop for regular stock and a Classified Ad for a one-off eligible item such as a vehicle.
What is a Classified Ad?
- A direct listing for one specific item.
- Available only where Classified Ads are enabled in your market, and only for the categories supported there.
- No Shop and no Commerce setup required for the ad itself.
- Interested buyers contact you directly from the ad.
- You and the buyer arrange inspection, payment and handover according to the current policy.
Which categories are supported?
- Supported categories depend on your market and can change over time.
- Where Classified Ads are available today, the supported category is vehicles.
- Cars.
- Motorcycles.
- Vans and minibuses.
- Trucks and commercial vehicles.
- Property, jobs, services and general classifieds are not available yet. Do not assume a category is supported until you can select it.
When should I use a Classified Ad?
- A specific used car you want to sell once.
- A motorcycle you are selling as a one-off.
- A van you no longer need.
- A truck or commercial vehicle being advertised for direct enquiry.
When should I use an Upfrica Shop instead?
- Clothing stock, phones, groceries, cosmetics and other repeat inventory.
- Anything you hold in quantity and restock.
- Products you want buyers to order and pay for through Upfrica.
- Brand-new motorcycles sold as repeat stock with quantity, variants and checkout can stay in Commerce.
Can I use both?
- Yes. The two selling options are not mutually exclusive.
- For example, a seller may run an Upfrica Shop for regular stock and also post an eligible vehicle as a Classified Ad.
- Each Classified Ad is still published without a Shop, and buyers still contact you directly for it.
Item type alone does not decide it
- The same kind of item can fit either model depending on how you sell it.
- One specific vehicle advertised for direct enquiry fits Classifieds.
- The same vehicle model held as repeat stock with variants and online checkout fits Commerce.
- If you are unsure, ask support to guide you to the right option.
Do not send Classified Ad sellers through Commerce shop setup. A Classified Ad is published without a Shop. This is separate from also running an Upfrica Shop, which a seller may do at the same time.
