Set returns, warranty and buyer protection

Review cancellation, return-window, free-return, warranty and public policy settings for a product.

Seller AcademyUpdated 13 July 2026

Product policy settings explain what the seller offers while working alongside Upfrica buyer protection and applicable law.

Cancellation before dispatch

  • Allow cancellation before dispatch when practical.
  • Do not mark an order as dispatched before it has actually left.
  • Explain any genuine product-specific limitation.

Return window

  • Choose a realistic number of return days.
  • Use free returns only when you will cover eligible return delivery costs.
  • Follow category restrictions for perishable or hygiene-sensitive products.
  • Buyer protection can still apply when an item is faulty, damaged, wrong or not as described.

Seller warranty

  • Offer a warranty only when the category allows it.
  • Choose a warranty duration you can genuinely honour.
  • Explain what the warranty covers where clarification is needed.
  • Do not describe manufacturer support as a seller warranty unless it genuinely applies.

Public policy note

  • Use the note for product-specific information.
  • Keep it concise and easy to understand.
  • Do not use the note to remove mandatory buyer rights.
  • Do not contradict the listing, category rules or Upfrica policy.

Category-based restrictions

  • Some perishable goods may not support ordinary change-of-mind returns.
  • Some hygiene-sensitive products may need to remain unopened.
  • Some categories may not support a seller warranty.
  • The editor may apply category defaults automatically.

Quick checklist

  • Cancellation setting reviewed
  • Return window reviewed
  • Free-return responsibility understood
  • Warranty is genuine
  • Category restrictions followed
  • Public note is accurate
Important

Seller policy notes cannot remove Upfrica protection or legal rights that apply when an item is faulty, damaged, wrong or not as described.
